Overview

Kanga is a small, intimate tented camp in a secluded area of Mana Pools National Park, northern Zimbabwe. A member of the prestigious African Bush Camps portfolio, this 12 bed camp sits 15km inland from the Zambezi River on a tranquil floodplain surrounded by verdant forest. The camp overlooks Kanga Pan, the only permanent water source in the area, which attracts spectacular wildlife, particularly during the dry season. Kanga has strong ties to sister camps in Hwange, Victoria Falls and Botswana.

The main area in camp is a split level structure under canvas, comprising a comfy lounge and bar, and a communal dining area, all with great views of the water hole. A fire pit with seating is a great place to congregate for a nightcap, and there's a refreshing plunge pool with loungers. Battery charging facilities are available in the main area.

Mana Pools is an UNESCO world heritage site and its varying terrain of scrubland, riverine forests and grassy plains attracts prolific wildlife, particularly during the dry season. Large numbers of elephant, plus buffalo, zebra, baboon, lion, kudu, wild dog, and leopard can be seen, along with the occasional elusive cheetah. Kanga Camp operates from April to December, and visitors during October and November should prepare for extremely high temperatures, coinciding with peak wildlife viewing.

Activities include game drives, guided walks, and bird watching. The camp is famed for its ‘armchair safari’ during the June to October dry season, when the adjacent Kanga Pan draws abundant wildlife, enabling in-camp game viewing from the comfort of your lodgings. Opt to spend a thrilling night sleeping under the stars on an elevated platform on stilts, in a secluded wilderness location. Canoeing and fishing excursions on the Zambezi flood plains, an hour’s drive away, are available subject to prior arrangement.

Accommodation comprises six spacious and well-appointed meru style tents. Each tent has double or twin beds and an ensuite bathroom featuring twin basins, WC, and alfresco showers. All tents have a super view of the water hole.

Children aged seven years and over are welcome. Families with younger children may be accommodated subject to prior arrangement, when the camp is booked on an exclusive basis for a minimum of ten guests. Two generously proportioned family units are available, each accommodating up to four guests in one double and twin beds, with a lounge and dining area. Each family tent has an ensuite bathroom with shower, WC, and basins, and one of the units also boasts an outdoor bath. Reductions are available for guests under 12 years of age when sharing with an adult. Note there is a minimum age restriction of 16 years for guided walks, with nature walks around camp available as an alternative. Note that Kanga is an unfenced camp and wildlife, including elephants, regularly roam through. Although it is unlikely that animals would approach tents or people, parents are reminded that children must be supervised at all times.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
