Overview

Royal Zambezi Lodge is a stylish, upmarket property on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi Valley. Towards the higher end of the budget spectrum, this elegant lodge offers luxurious accommodation, excellent cuisine, superb facilities including an infinity pool and spa, plus various land and water-based activities. Situated across the river from Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools World Heritage Site, the lodge is just a short drive away from the Lower Zambezi National Park, home to 300 species of birds and abundant game, including elephant, lion, hippo, leopard, zebra, antelope, and the elusive wild dog. The lodge regularly receives visiting wildlife, including a resident elephant, crocodile, and giant kingfisher.

A bright and airy, open-plan main area leads to a comfortable lounge with generous sofas and a large open fire, plus a dining room, gift shop, and spa. Outside is a shaded, decked terrace overlooking the river, and a stunning infinity pool. The adjacent ‘Sausage Tree Bar’ has panoramic views and is a perfect spot for sundowners. Cuisine is first rate; lunch is served at individual tables on the terrace, or out on a game drive, whilst evening meals are enjoyed under the stars, or indoors by the fire on cooler evenings. Private dining can be accommodated, including special candlelit dinners in a romantic bush location, or on a sandbar on the river.

Numerous activities include day and night game drives, guided walks, and mountain hikes, plus sunset river cruises, canoe safaris, and fishing. Guests can enjoy cultural interaction with the local Goba community, or pampering at the lodge spa, which boasts a jacuzzi, steam room, and plunge pool.

Accommodation comprises 15 canopied, tented suites overlooking the river, each sleeping two guests. Stylish and elegant, the suites feature neutral décor and contemporary furnishings. Eight spacious ‘Classic’ suites have an ensuite bathroom and a veranda with lovely river views. Four ‘Deluxe’ suites have a similar interior, plus a substantial outside area with a plunge pool and day bed or ‘sala’, along with a wonderfully indulgent outdoor bath and shower. There are also three ‘Presidential’ suites with all the aforementioned features but significantly larger interiors, including a spacious lounge area. Although there is no air conditioning, all units have mosquito nets and room fans.

Children age eight years and over are most welcome, with younger guests accommodated on request, and discounts for under 12s. The Presidential suites can accommodate up to three extra beds, to create a family suite. Alternatively, two Classic suites can interconnect via a central lounge area, creating a generous family unit. Tailored activities and earlier evening meals for children are available. Whilst the lodge does not provide qualified child care, staff will supervise children in their suites whilst adults enjoy their evening meal. As the camp is unfenced and wildlife does roam through, parents are reminded that children must be supervised at all times.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
