Overview

Mfuwe Lodge is a large safari camp located within the South Luangwa National Park, eastern Zambia. Just 45 minutes’ drive from Mfuwe Airport, the lodge is situated in woodland alongside two beautiful lagoons. This pretty, waterside setting attracts a variety of wildlife, including hippo, giraffe, buffalo, antelope, and crocodile, along with a family of elephants, who regularly wander through the camp grounds and reception! The surrounding area is renowned for prolific game viewing, with regular sightings of lion, leopard, zebra, jackal, and impala, plus the occasional wild dog.

The lodge’s main building is an airy, open-plan construction of stone and wood under thatch. Communal spaces are traditionally and comfortably furnished and comprise reception, lounge, dining area, and bar. There is a well-stocked library, and a souvenir shop. Wi-Fi is available in the main areas. Outside is a spacious decked terrace with a large and inviting swimming pool, outdoor gym, and spa with bubbling jacuzzi, all with fantastic views of the animals that frequent the lagoon. Meals are served either indoors at individual tables, or alfresco on the deck.

Activities include twice-daily game drives with extremely knowledgeable guides, night drives, guided walks, bird watching, and cultural visits to the local community. Back at base, guests can relax and enjoy pampering treatments in the lovely spa. Note that the area’s high wildlife density, combined with the lodge’s proximity to the main entrance of the National Park, means that there is a risk at times of vehicle congestion during game drives.

The accommodation consists of 18 thatched chalets situated along the banks of the lagoon, all featuring ensuite bathrooms with shower, flush toilet, and twin washbasins with hot and cold running water. All units are equipped with fans, mosquito nets, electrical charging points, a safe, and a private veranda overlooking the lagoon, and falling asleep at night to the sounds of the surrounding bush is a real delight. 13 of the chalets sleep two guests in double or twin beds, with a comfortable lounge area. Two larger, split-level chalets contain one double and one single bedroom, with two bathrooms, and there are also three designated family units.

Children of all ages are welcome at the lodge, although note there is a minimum age restriction of 12 years for walking in the National Park. The three split-level, spacious family units each comprise two bedrooms, a bathroom and lounge area. One of the camp’s highlights is that it is regularly visited by wildlife, but consequently, parents are reminded that children must be closely supervised at all times.

Mfuwe Lodge provides the thrill of up-close wildlife sightings in a magical waterside setting, along with comfortable, relaxing accommodation, and a superb range of delightful facilities and activities.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
