Overview

Kulala Desert Lodge is located in the Sossusvlei in the southwest region of Namibia. The surrounding 67,000-acre Kulala Wilderness Reserve is home to a variety of animals, and provides a great location for guests to try out unique activities such as ballooning and quad-biking.

Guest accommodation consists of 23 timber suites (the ‘kulalas’). Each is fitted with stone bathrooms and an upper deck that allows guests to sleep under the stars. The main stone-under-thatch lodge houses a number of communal facilities including a restaurant, bar, lounge, swimming pool, and wrap-around veranda overlooking the scenic red dunes.

Activities here centre on the lodge’s location in the expansive desert. Guests can explore the iconic red Sossusvlei dunes on foot, on nature or sundowner drives, by quad bike, by horse, or by hot air balloon, which is particularly attractive to photographers looking to get some snaps of the famous Namibian desert. There are also a number of other places to see hidden in the desert, including the Sesriem Canyon or Dead Vlei, home to fossilised trees. Animals commonly spotted include gemsbok, ostriches, black-backed jackals, dune larks, and springboks.

Children of all ages are welcome. Two of the suites combine to create a family unit, with a shared bathroom suitable for families with younger children. An additional four rooms pair up with shared decks, suitable for families with older children.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
