Overview

This is luxury at its simplest. Spread across tropical gardens overlooking the Indian Ocean, Kilindi Zanzibar finds a great balance between intimacy and openness with white-domed Pavilion guest rooms, private butlers, and an alfresco approach to living. Attractive primarily for adult couples wishing to share their relaxing privacy with the nature that surrounds them and not suitable for families with young children.

Kilindi Zanzibar rests on 35-acres of tropical gardens. It was originally built for ABBA's Benny Andersson, hence the Scandinavian minimalism that is infused with Islamic architecture and the African embrace of nature that defines the uniqueness of the resort’s experience.

Outside the main pavilion floats a 25-metre infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean. This is surrounded by a powder-white secluded beachfront on which guests may dine. The island of Zanzibar is drenched in a history centred on trade in spice, from nutmeg to cinnamon and saffron, with the Middle East, China, and Europe. Guests can still see this history today when dhows sail past their abodes.

13 domed pavilion suites constitute the resort’s guest accommodation. All suites have their own private plunge pool and ‘rainfall’ shower rooms that are designed to bring guests closer to nature. The most attractive aspect of the guest rooms is the view on offer—the ocean during the day is breath-taking, and can be seen whilst lounging on the suite’s private sun terrace.

Kilindi Zanzibar helps to arrange water-based activities for guests, such as deep-sea fishing, scuba-diving and snorkelling, jet and water skiing, fly fishing, and banana boating. Guests can also relax on catamaran and sunset dhow cruises, or go Kizimkazi dolphin spotting. On land, guests can visit the nearby Jozani Forest, home to animals exclusive to the region such as the Red Colobus monkey and Zanzibar servaline genet, visit nearby Stone Town, and tour the island’s famous spice farms.

The resort is predominantly adult-only, and guests must be a minimum of 16 years of age. A two-bedroom pavilion is available, and consists of one double and one twin pavilion bedroom each with spectacular views and a private plunge pool, and features a private garden as well as a private Day Pavilion. It is the only accommodation suitable for families. Family groups must book out the resort exclusively.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
