Overview

Situated in the shaded acacia forest on the northwest of Lake Manyara, Migunga Tented Camp offers a prime base from which to explore the Lake Manyara National Park as well as the colourful town of Mto Wa Mbu. Whilst lacking the plethora of wildlife the surrounding national parks boast, the Lake Manyara area hosts some unique game and works well as a stop on route to the Serengeti.

One of the area’s most famous attractions is the tree-climbing lion. Looking up into the acacia forest canopy to see a relaxing pride of lions hanging from the branches is truly something to behold. Elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, hippo, flamingo, warthog, zebra, waterbuck, impala, dik-dik, and a huge number of baboons litter the plains around the trees, ready to disperse once the lions have climbed down from their afternoon naps.

Nestled in one of the quieter corners of acacia forest, Migunga Tented Camp is made up of 21 raised semi-luxury tents. Each is fitted with en-suite bathrooms and a private veranda that overlooks the verdant forest diaspora, which means guests wake up to the sound of the forest and the odd beam of sunlight cutting through the vibrant topography. Migunga Tented Camp’s main lodge consists of a wood and thatched building that houses a restaurant with daily 4-course menu, bar, and reading area.

Bicycle trails offer guests the opportunity to explore the Lake Manyara area on the ground and at their own leisure. Along the way, guests can spot vervet monkeys playing. Safari walks are also a great way to explore the area at dawn, which is the best time to spot the Lake’s beautiful array of birdlife, and usually end with sundowners. It is not uncommon for curious birds and monkeys to take safari walks of their own and stroll right past your tent.

This is a Tanzanian safari experience characterised by captivating views and a breadth of activities than its game-viewing opportunities.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
