Overview

Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is located in the Seronera area of the central Serengeti, Northern Tanzania. The scattered hillside layout of this extraordinary lodge affords guests a real sense of privacy despite the property’s large number of rooms, and the views from its elevated position are spectacular. The lodge can be reached by road or by plane to the adjacent airstrip.

The thatched main areas have a rustic, African feel and comprise a reception area with curio shop, and a stunning domed dining room with separate lounge and bar. The semi-circular ‘vanishing horizon pool’ is set in a stunning location on the edge of the hillside, with breath-taking views across the Serengeti plains.

Activities comprise daily ‘Big 5’ game drives, guided nature walks and local community visits. The annual wildebeest migration is a must-see spectacle and the birdlife is wonderful. Cultural dance displays and nightly wildlife talks are also offered, as are balloon safaris and massage treatments.

Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge falls into the larger hotel category of this area with 66 ‘beehive style’, thatch-roofed rondavels spaced out amidst the acacia trees. Each ronadavel contains three modestly-sized hotel rooms, each with its own outside entrance and a simple but pristine en-suite bathroom with flushing toilet, shower and twin basins. Rooms of double and twin formation are available, and many of the rooms can work as triples. Adjoining rooms can also be arranged.

Children of all ages are welcome and families are well catered for. The large pool is a real draw, although young children must be supervised by parents despite the presence of a lifeguard. Meal times are reasonably flexible and cots and babysitting services are available. Note that the lodge is unfenced with game free to roam through camp, and while it’s unlikely that animals will approach humans, parents must keep children under close supervision at all times.

Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge offers comfortable, good value accommodation. Although it’s a popular hotel and can become rather busy, the excellent central Serengeti location, high level of creature comforts, and wonderful views make for a delightful stay.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
