Overview

Located in the Timbavati Private game reserve, Umlani enjoys an unfenced border with Kruger National Park leading to a wealth of wildlife. A small and simple place, Umlani is in the centre of the reserve and leaves behind luxury in favour of a true, rustic discovery of the African bush.

This camp is a true nature lover’s choice; there is no electricity anywhere on site, solar power is instead relied on and oil lanterns and candlelight give the camp an authentic atmosphere. The focus of the property is the great wildlife; day and night game drives and bush walks are led by expert rangers as you navigate true ‘Big Five’ territory. A nearby private tree house gives you the opportunity to sleep out and watch game and birds exploring the dam beneath you. Back at camp there is a swimming pool with double hammocks and decked bar area overlooking neighbouring waterholes which is a great place to relax in between safaris.

In keeping with the authentic, natural theme the accommodation is split into 10 African reed and thatch rondavels. There are four double huts, five family suites and an ‘eco’ rondavel so both families and couples are provided for. All rooms are en-suite and have open air showers and basic amenities. This is a historic, traditional camp and therefore the accommodation is designed as an escape from modern life.

Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the camp and participate in game drives when accompanied by an adult. Babysitting and cots are available and the dining room offers child portions. Umlani is extremely child friendly and a real opportunity for young families as it is rare for younger children to be included on game drives.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
