Overview

Motswari game lodge is a traditional camp situated in the Timbavati game reserve, sharing an open boundary with the Kruger National Park. An exclusive camp with excellent hospitality this is one of our firm favourites in the area for couples, friends and families.

The main lodge is run by a welcoming team and centres around an open fronted lounge overlooking the Sohebele River and neighbouring waterholes. All meals are enjoyed outside and dining in the traditional boma under the African sky is a particular highlight. The experienced rangers run two game drives a day at sunrise and sunset; lasting 3.5 hours these safaris are comprehensive and a great opportunity to spot the ‘Big Five’. Guided bush walks and overnight walking safari experiences are also available and preferred by the rangers for a greater appreciation of the bush up close. In between bush activities, there is a riverside pool to relax by, a library and exceptionally, an art gallery.

Motswari is an intimate location, with 15 en-suite bungalows housing a maximum of 30 guests at one time. Each air conditioned bungalow is beautifully light with high ceilings and a natural finish to reflect the setting. All include a private verandah; the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the bush. Geiger’s camp, the private lodge, is also available to book for exclusive use and consists of five spacious en-suite rooms and a private pool. An internet hotspot is available 24 hours a day.

Children six and over are welcome at Motswari and on the game drives , however there is a minimum age of 12 for the bush walks and 18 for the overnight safari. At Geiger’s camp children of all ages are welcome and may join the game drives from the age of 4 at the guide’s discretion. You can also request an au pair when making a reservation. This is a great option for families with younger children that are interested in wildlife and can be sensible and responsible.

The small size of this camp and its personal approach makes it ideal for those looking for an authentic safari experience in the heart of the bush.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
