Overview

Harmony Hotel is a delightful, high-end establishment with a distinctly laid-back feel which lies midway along the Pacific coastline of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. It’s set back a short distance from Playa Guiones, a highly-rated surfers paradise that stretches for over four miles. Facilities include a lovely pool and a spa which goes over and above the traditional treatment menu to provide a more holistic approach to deep relaxation and wellbeing. There’s also plenty to do if surfing’s not really your thing and the many activities on offer range from yoga to mountain biking, snorkelling, kayaking, ziplining or simply lolling around on the beach or beside the pool.

There are plenty of accommodation options to suit parties of different sizes. There are standard rooms and one-bed bungalows, as well as a two-bed suite and two large villas. All options have their own patio complete with a seating area, a hammock and a private outdoor shower. Rooms are air conditioned and have a ceiling fan, with amenities including a tea and coffee maker, a minibar and eco-friendly toiletries. The rates for all rooms include a daily maid service, the Green Living tour, one daily yoga class per guest and an a la carte breakfast every morning.

The open-air restaurant serves three meals a day, with a large amount of the food sourced from the hotel’s very own farm. There’s also a bar with a relaxed, sociable lounge area for drinks and light snacks. Tucked away from the main facilities is the Juice Bar, a hidden gem in hotel’s gardens offering a range of healthy, homemade snacks and freshly prepared drinks.

Playa Guiones has earned an excellent reputation as a top surfing beach thanks to its year-round waves. It’s just a couple of minutes’ walk from the hotel to the beach where surfing lessons are available for both complete beginners and those with more experience. There are other beaches in the vicinity and plenty of alternative activities on offer ranging from mountain biking and zip lining, to snorkelling, kayaking and many more. Some of the more leisurely options include voluntary tree planting sessions, trips to a sustainable coffee farm and a tour of a nearby plant nursery.

Harmony’s on-site facilities include a swimming pool surrounded by pretty, tropical vegetation and a boutique selling all manner of sundries, along with various books, local art and souvenirs. Bikes are available for hire for no extra charge, as are surfboards, yoga mats and exercise equipment. The Healing Centre is the hotel’s spa which offers guest a more enriching and meaningful experience than a traditional spa.

The hotel is family friendly, with most of its rooms capable of accommodating those travelling with young children. Due to the property’s beachside location, parents are reminded to ensure that their children are under constant adult supervision.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • I would like to say a massive thank you for organising our Vietnam trip. The itinerary and execution were superb, as was the attention to detail. I would also like to thank the agent who was on the end of my whats app chat (I have no idea who they were!) – always available, always quick to respond, and kept me updated regarding times etc. Also, the guides Dan (north) and Tien (mid) were just excellent, and we really enjoyed their company. The lady (whose name I have forgotten) who was our additional guide for the DMZ day was exceedingly good and made that day very special.
