Overview

Lagarta Lodge is a luxurious boutique hotel with stunning Ocean views on the outskirts of Nosara. Nosara is one of our favourite beach towns in Costa Rica with two stunning beaches, fantastic surf and a thriving yoga, craft beer and food scene. This elegant property has 26 suites and is located on a bluff 40 metres above sea level with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean. It’s set near its own, private nature reserve filled with an abundance of mango trees and not far from some wonderful beaches, two beautiful winding rivers, dense woodland and an abundance of lush vegetation. There’s genuine emphasis on sustainability here, and the lodge actively supports various local communities. In keeping with this, a portion of the room rate goes towards a number of conservation and education initiatives in the area.

When it comes to accommodation, there are three categories to choose from: Jungle Suites, which offer scenic views of unspoiled vegetation; Panorama Suites, which offer views of the ocean and nearby river; and Flor Blanca Suites, which are the largest and most expensive option and look out onto the ocean. All 26 suites are tastefully designed and well presented, with plenty of modern conveniences and high-quality furnishings throughout. Every room has a private veranda, along with air conditioning and ceiling fans, an en-suite bathroom, a small fridge, a hairdryer and luxury bedding.

The Restaurant, Chirriboca, serves up an array of local and international delicacies and boasts captivating ocean views. All food is freshly-prepared and ingredients are generally sourced from local, organic farms. Complimentary wine is served from the lodge’s own well-stocked wine cellar where romantic meals for two can also be arranged. There’s also the Gecko Lounge, a sociable, open-air space to relax in over a drink or two, and from which to admire some beautiful sunset views. It would be remiss not to mention the excellent dining options nearby. We highly recommend the beach front La Luna for a sundowner, Beer & Burger for fantastic burgers and craft beer and 10 Pies legendary pizza's. You will need to drive or arrange a taxi to get to these locations.

The Vista Manglares Spa offers an extensive menu of relaxing treatments, along with a number of yoga classes. There are also two infinity pools, a shop and an art gallery showcasing a collection of local artwork.

Guests are privileged to have exclusive access to the lodge’s private nature reserve. It’s possible to explore various walking trails independently at your own pace, or to enjoy adventures with an informative guide. There are several beaches within 15 minute walking distance (or a shuttle is available) - Playa Guiones is a world-class surfing destination, with reliable clean surf year round that caters well for beginners and intermediates. Playa Ostional is a great spot to see nesting sea turtles (seasonal). Horseback riding and various beach sports, such as football and volleyball, are also popular here. Some of the many other activities on offer include boat and kayak tours of the two nearby rivers, and zip lining. To make the most of the area, we do recommend guests staying here have their own car, if you aren't self driving around Costa Rica, then it is possible to rent a car locally.

Children of all ages are welcome and those under 12 stay free of charge. Some rooms are big enough to accommodate an extra one or two guests, so there are some flexible accommodation options for families along with a great variety of activities for all ages in the area.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • I would like to say a massive thank you for organising our Vietnam trip. The itinerary and execution were superb, as was the attention to detail. I would also like to thank the agent who was on the end of my whats app chat (I have no idea who they were!) – always available, always quick to respond, and kept me updated regarding times etc. Also, the guides Dan (north) and Tien (mid) were just excellent, and we really enjoyed their company. The lady (whose name I have forgotten) who was our additional guide for the DMZ day was exceedingly good and made that day very special.
