Overview

Aguila de Osa is an outstanding, mid-range lodge set in a breathtakingly beautiful area of remote, unspoiled rainforest on Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula which is known for its incredible biodiversity. This lovely property lies on a bluff by the mouth of the Aguijitas River and offers stunning, sweeping views of Drake Bay. There’s plenty of water and land-based adventure to be had in the two nearby reserves; the Caño Island Biological Reserve is excellent for snorkelling and diving, and a visit to the Corcovado National Park, the largest of Costa Rica’s many national parks, is a must.

There are 11 pristine, characterful guestrooms and two suites. All rooms have captivating views of the surrounding scenery and plenty of windows to let in generous amounts of natural light. They have an open, spacious feel with high, vaulted ceilings and screened windows that let in not only the gentle, cooling breeze, but also the soothing birdsong and wildlife soundtrack of the surrounding forest. Each room has a spacious en-suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries, and both hot water and drinking water are supplied round-the-clock.

The hotel’s open-air restaurant, The Great Room, offers dramatic views of both the ocean and the rainforest, and is one of the main areas for socialising, the other being the Jungle Terrace, which has its own bar where guests typically gather for a round or two of drinks before dinner. Breakfasts are filling and plentiful, while lunches are on the lighter side and dinners feature a selection of sumptuous gourmet dishes.

There are a dozen or more excursions on offer for exploring the lodge’s wonderful, untouched surroundings and rich wildlife. Expert guides will impart their knowledge about the area, its many resident land and marine animals, and the ongoing conservation efforts. Some of the many activities include ziplining through the rainforest canopy, fishing, horse riding along the beach, whale-watching, birdwatching jungle walks and heading out after dark to see some of the many nocturnal species who inhabit the area. There’s also top-notch diving, kayaking and snorkelling on offer at nearby Caño Island.

The lodge welcomes children of all ages, though there are age restrictions on some activities. Two children under the age of 12 can stay in the same room with 2 adults with no additional charge for accommodation or food and there are activity packages tailored to the particular needs and interests of families. Given the remote, wild nature of the hotel’s location, parents are reminded to keep their children under constant adult supervision.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • I would like to say a massive thank you for organising our Vietnam trip. The itinerary and execution were superb, as was the attention to detail. I would also like to thank the agent who was on the end of my whats app chat (I have no idea who they were!) – always available, always quick to respond, and kept me updated regarding times etc. Also, the guides Dan (north) and Tien (mid) were just excellent, and we really enjoyed their company. The lady (whose name I have forgotten) who was our additional guide for the DMZ day was exceedingly good and made that day very special.
