Somalisa Camp is an upmarket safari camp in a stunning location in Hwange National Park, northwest Zimbabwe. Recently refurbished, this stylish property sits shaded by acacia trees in a secluded private concession, with beautiful views across a seasonal flood plain. Open all year, the camp offers strong hosting and guiding with just seven elegant tented rooms, a plunge pool, and well-appointed communal areas. It will appeal to travellers seeking a really comfortable yet authentic bush experience in a stunning wilderness area.
Hwange is the largest national park in Zimbabwe, and its varying terrain of arid scrub, mopane woodlands and grassy plains is home to abundant and diverse wildlife, including large herds of elephant, along with buffalo, giraffe, lion, zebra, kudu, and leopard.
Guest areas at Somalisa include an open-fronted lounge and communal dining room with lovely views across the plain. Outside is a decked area with an inviting plunge pool and loungers, and a waterhole which is regularly frequented by wildlife, particularly elephants. Battery charging facilities are available in the main area, and in private tents.
Activities include day and night game drives in the private concession, and guided walks with informed, enthusiastic guides. Birding enthusiasts will enjoy spotting some of the area’s 400+ bird species. Somalisa Camp is committed to supporting local schools, and encourages cultural visits to nearby villages, which are a great way to learn about traditional Zimbabwean customs and day to day life.
The accommodation comprises seven stylish tented rooms. Each spacious tent has a double or twin beds draped with mosquito nets, and a generous ensuite bathroom with twin basins, WC, a copper bathtub, and both indoor and outdoor showers. There is a wood burner for colder nights, and fans for hot days. Sliding doors lead onto a private terrace with seating.
Children age seven years and over are warmly welcome in camp. Younger guests may be accommodated, subject to the management’s discretion. Discounts are offered to under 12s when sharing with an adult. Note that a minimum age restriction of 16 years applies to guided walks, with nature walks around camp available as an alternative. Somalisa Camp is unfenced, and wildlife regularly roams through, and although it is unlikely that animals would approach tents or people, parents are reminded to supervise their children at all times.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!
All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.
Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.
El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.
Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.
So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

Dear Lisa. On behalf of the three generations of the Rowland family. Thank you, so much, for organising our wonderful holiday to Botswana and the Victoria Falls. The trip of a lifetime. The week mobile camping in the bush, with our guide Nandos and his crew was a fantastic adventure. How they manage to cook such wonderful food on an open fire is amazing. The sites were constantly visited by monkeys and once by elephants. We were even lucky enough to see two packs of wild dogs, once with a kill. Waterberry Lodge on the Zambezi River is a wonderfully tranquil place. Ideal to relax after the adventures of our safari and visiting Victoria Falls. Very many thanks once again

We had a great time - even with the flight between Governors and the coast being two flights and a car! We also experienced a power cut At Nairobi airport on the way home so 2+ hours late taking off. Governors. Wonderful people and dealt with the flight delay very well - taking us back and letting us know that we could stay there if the flight was delayed overnight. The game drives were excellent and our guide (Erick) obviously very experienced and managed to find all the key animals - no rhino in that part of the Masai Mara but everything else in abundance - never seen so many herbivores (many many elephants as well as all the others) as well as two prides of lions. Could not have asked for more. The ‘tent’ was excellent and comfortable and well serviced. The only ‘complaint’ would be that the food - especially dinner - could be improved (I think we got a bit bored of soup as a starter for every meal bar one) and the main courses were not at the same level as Kinondo Kwetu and while all were explained there was no choice offered. The breakfasts were just what was needed after an early game drive. Kinondo Kwetu. What a great location and the welcome when we arrived at just gone 11.00pm was better than you could have ever thought possible - they we’re disappointed that we did not at that time want the full dinner experience! The rooms we’re comfortable. The food was excellent but again no choice was offered - other than for allergy reasons (which we do not have). May be some choice would be nice. Having said that the food we did have was excellent as were the wines (albeit a short list!) and other drinks. There were (as you know) lots of facilities/sports options - but we spent our time relaxing which was exactly what we needed and there were lots of places to do that. Overall. We would go back to both places - perhaps a few more nights at Kinondo Kwetu next time but 3 nights at Governors was perfect for us. Thank you for organising and recommending both places. That you and your colleague for trying to find out about the plane (flat tyre) but communication by the flight company left a lot to be desired (Governors were furious that they were not told and had taken us to the airstrip). It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions.
