EnquireMayukuyuku Bush Camp is a small, traditional safari camp in a picturesque waterside setting within northern Zambia’s remote and unspoilt Kafue National Park. Shaded by trees on the banks of the Kafue River, Mayukuyuku’s name means ‘water hitting rocks’, and this charming camp is characterised by simple, comfortable accommodation and warm, friendly hosting. Offering just four spacious ensuite tents plus an adjacent campsite, this tranquil and unpretentious resting place will appeal to adventurous travellers seeking an authentic safari experience off the beaten track.
Kafue is Zambia’s largest national park, and still relatively untouched by tourism. The diverse terrain of rivers, forest, and open plains is home to prolific bird and wildlife including cheetah, leopard, lion, wildebeest, buffalo, hippo, and wild dog. A four hour drive from Zambia’s capital, Lusaka, Mayukuyuku is open all year round.
The camp’s thatched and open-sided main building comprises a communal dining area, a lounge with wicker furniture, and a small bar, all with views of the river and the surrounding wildlife. Meals are communal and frequently served alfresco, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Special diets can be accommodated.
Activities include morning and evening game drives and guided walks with experienced guides, as well as boat excursions and fishing on the Kafue River. Guests have the additional option of self-driving on game drives, using their own vehicle while being accompanied by a knowledgeable guide.
Accommodation comprises four spacious canvas tents constructed beneath thatched canopies and spaced out along the riverbank. Each tent is simply and comfortably furnished with a double or twin beds and clothes storage. To the rear of each unit is an ensuite, open air bathroom with hot shower, hand basin and flush WC. Outside is a private verandah with a table and chairs, and an inviting hammock, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine. There is also an additional camping area available onsite for travellers bringing their own tent.
Children are welcome and discounts are offered for guests under 12 years of age. The camp is unfenced and in close proximity to the river, and wild animals, including elephants, do roam through. Although it is unlikely that wildlife would approach tents or people, parents are reminded that children should be supervised at all times.
We had an extraordinary time. It was magical and we couldn't hav asked or hoped for more. Thank you both so much for all of your time and assistance.

Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!
Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.
Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!
All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.
Thanks you once again!
