The province of Krabi lies on the west coast of southern Thailand, facing the Andaman Sea. It’s known for its stunning towering limestone cliffs, expansive mangrove forests, lush rainforest landscapes and many beachfront resorts. There are also more than a hundred and fifty offshore islands strewn throughout the sea with crystal-clear waters and white-sand beaches.
The highlights of the area are Railay Beach, Phang Nga Bay and the outlying Islands all of which feature stunning beaches, crystal clear aqua marine water and stunning Limestone karst outcrops.
Ao Nang is the most developed of the province’s settlements, with a relatively uninspired stretch of sand, but a good selection of lower cost accommodation and plenty of opportunity for boat trips out to the surrounding islands and beaches. The town of Krabi itself is a more traditional market town, with shops aplenty and its weekend night market popular with both residents and tourists alike. In terms of accommodation, the absolute pick of the area is The Rayavadee on Railay, a picturesque peninsula only accessible by boat that’s known for its four serene beaches.
Krabi’s tropical climate is generally quite favourable. The province experiences quite hot temperatures year-round, with the sea also pleasantly warm at all times of the year. The area’s dry season typically runs from December to March, with the rest of the year experiencing higher-than-average amounts of rainfall. September tends to be both the coolest and the wettest month, while February’s usually the driest and April the hottest.
