Botswana's first ever national park, Chobe National Park, borders the Chobe river and is home to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa. The Chobe Waterfront area to the North of the Park offers prodigious wildlife viewing opportunities. During the June/October dry season a host of wildlife migrates towards the river and in addition to herds of elephants there are also buffalo, antelope, crocodiles and hippos, with lion, leopard and spotted hyena frequently seen out on the floodplains.
Chobe Waterfront benefits from both land and water based safari activities and several good camp options. The area is very convenient from Victoria Falls but can consequently suffer from relatively heavy safari vehicle traffic. As such, we tend to recommend Chobe in combination with Victoria Falls for a better value safari experience saving on the need for internal small aircraft flights.
