The Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s premier safari experience, a vast expanse of savannah grassland heavily populated year-round with wildlife. There is always a good chance of seeing lion but Leopard and Cheetah are rarer sightings. Elephant, buffalo and wildebeest are common. The rivers plays host to sun lounging crocodiles and laughing hippos. The epic Wildebeest Migration happens from late June – early September, but the Masai Mara is a fantastic safari destination year round.
You'll be staying in a fantastic small bush camp in a thoroughly wild setting in the Mara with tents with proper beds and en-suite bathrooms. A typical day on safari generally starts with an early morning rise for a game drive to see the animals at their most active. You then have plenty of time to relax at the lodge in the middle of the day before heading out again in the late afternoon for a game drive and sundowner.
From the Masai Mara there are good connections across to the island of Zanzibar. You will still be able to have your morning game drive in the Masai Mara and be on the beach in Zanzibar in the early evening.
Breezes Beach Club and Spa is a super resort located on the Southeast coast of Zanzibar. Set on one of Zanzibar’s most picturesque beaches, Breezes has a fantastic range of facilities and activities and is a great choice for active families. Breezes is an old favourite and gets consistently good feedback from our clients. Facilities include a large swimming pool, tennis courts, paddle boarding, windsurfing and dive center
This is a tailor-made itinerary and we would be delighted to customise it to your requirements. For upgrades on safari we recommend Karen Blixen Camp for a good value camp with a swimming pool or Kicheche Mara for a more upscale small bush camp. On Zanzibar, Breezes is a fantastic choice for families and those wanting a range of facilities at the beach, but Pongwe is a fantastic alternative at similar price for a more laid back experience and is great for couples. Baraza Beach Resort is an excellent upgrade option. Those with more time might consider combining the safari in the Masai Mara with a camp in the contrasting Laikipia Wilderness area such as Laikipia Wilderness Camp.

Depending on which airline you fly, you may need a first night in Nairobi before heading onto the Mara.

From the UK: International flights from the UK to Kenya typically cost £850 - £1250 return per person depending on the airline and when you are travelling. British Airways and Kenya Airways offer a non-stop daily service between London Heathrow and Nairobi. These typically cost between £650 - £1250 return. Savings can be had if you are willing to fly indirect, with KLM, Qatar, Turkish and Ethiopian all offering competitive fairs at the expense of less convenient flight times and stop-overs.
From the US: Kenya Airways offers a non-stop daily service between JFK and Nairobi. Prices are typically between $1,000 - £1,500 per person return. Alternatively you can fly with British Airways or American Airlines via London, Delta via Paris or Ethiopian via Addis Ababa.
All accommodation, meals as mentioned, scheduled shared safari activities and transfers quoted in the itinerary.
Excludes: Items of a personal nature, visas, travel insurance, medical requirements, international flights from London to Nairobi / Zanzibar. Flight quotes available on request.
Price for ground arrangements is valid year round (except Christmas and New Year).
It is best to avoid the long rains that run from the second half of March, April, May and into early June. During this period it tends to rain through the night and into the morning. It is usually possible to get a dry spell between 10am and 2pm for getting out on safari.
The short rains bring some rain during September and October, but this is less of an impediment and they have usually cleared up by October half term.
December, January, July and August are peak season, expect flight costs to be substantially higher.

We had a great time - even with the flight between Governors and the coast being two flights and a car! We also experienced a power cut At Nairobi airport on the way home so 2+ hours late taking off. Governors. Wonderful people and dealt with the flight delay very well - taking us back and letting us know that we could stay there if the flight was delayed overnight. The game drives were excellent and our guide (Erick) obviously very experienced and managed to find all the key animals - no rhino in that part of the Masai Mara but everything else in abundance - never seen so many herbivores (many many elephants as well as all the others) as well as two prides of lions. Could not have asked for more. The ‘tent’ was excellent and comfortable and well serviced. The only ‘complaint’ would be that the food - especially dinner - could be improved (I think we got a bit bored of soup as a starter for every meal bar one) and the main courses were not at the same level as Kinondo Kwetu and while all were explained there was no choice offered. The breakfasts were just what was needed after an early game drive. Kinondo Kwetu. What a great location and the welcome when we arrived at just gone 11.00pm was better than you could have ever thought possible - they we’re disappointed that we did not at that time want the full dinner experience! The rooms we’re comfortable. The food was excellent but again no choice was offered - other than for allergy reasons (which we do not have). May be some choice would be nice. Having said that the food we did have was excellent as were the wines (albeit a short list!) and other drinks. There were (as you know) lots of facilities/sports options - but we spent our time relaxing which was exactly what we needed and there were lots of places to do that. Overall. We would go back to both places - perhaps a few more nights at Kinondo Kwetu next time but 3 nights at Governors was perfect for us. Thank you for organising and recommending both places. That you and your colleague for trying to find out about the plane (flat tyre) but communication by the flight company left a lot to be desired (Governors were furious that they were not told and had taken us to the airstrip). We had the most incredible time thank you. We loved Karen Blixen camp and felt part of a family there, it was incredibly special. And Breezes was very relaxing.
We can't fault all the transfers and the moment we were greeted on the tarmac at Nairobi airport we knew we were going to be well cared for.Thank you so much to you and all the Tourdust team for making it such a happy and memorable trip.

We had an amazing trip. Everything was well thought out and so much fun. What a great way to truly see the country and learn the culture.
Joseph was the perfect guide. Very kind, professional, knowledgeable and patient. The kids loved Joseph and keep asking when will they meet him again. He found the Big 5 for us which was unforgettable! Please pass along our appreciation to Joseph.
Maji Moto was also another incredible experience. They had great customer service and we loved experiencing their culture.
Sunbird was absolutely beautiful and I wish we had more time there. We loved the view of the lake!
One suggestion to make the trip even better for other guests in the future would be to have a cooler with drinks and snacks in the Jeep at all times because a ton of driving is involved and it would be helpful to have a cold drink and snacks during the long trip.
Thanks again for organizing this experience of a lifetime for us!
