Overview

Set in the Isibindi Eco Reserve among dolorite boulders and Buffalo Thorn Trees, Isibindi Zulu Lodge boasts some of the best views in the region. Its guest suites overlook spectacular landscapes, from the montane grassland to the valley thornveld and riverine forest, which provides couples and families fantastic opportunities to spot diverse game in their natural habitat.

Isibindi Zulu Lodge offers varied ways to explore the surrounding vast and varied wildlife. Guests can take part in Game Drives that bring them close to giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and much more. The absence of Big Five game or predators is a bonus here, as guests can venture into the reserve on-foot with intimate Game Walks. Mountain Bike trails take guests up and over the vast mountain ranges – everything one can see from their room can be explored.

This is also a historically rich area of the world. There are many opportunities for guests to learn about the Zulu culture and the traditions that remain today, as well as to explore the battlefields of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana with expert guides.

Guest accommodation consists of six beehive suites inspired by traditional Zulu ‘rondavel’ (roundhouse) architecture overlooking the mountains after which each is named, Mpompolwana, Makhonda, and Malakatha. 2000 hectares of rich wilderness rest just beyond – each suite features a private balcony for guests to relax and appreciate the scenery. There are en-suite facilities in every suite, with some having both showers and baths. The main lodge, styled similarly to the guest suites, as a number of communal amenities to facilitate a relaxing stay. There is an infinity-edge swimming pool, an open-fire, and areas to watch traditional Zulu dance and other activities.

Children of all ages are welcome, with children under the age of 3 years able to visit free of charge. When the rain has been good, the Isibindi River makes for a great spot for tubing, which is fun for all the family. All suites can be configured either as double or twin rooms and can hold an extra stretcher-styled bed for children under the age of 18 years old.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
