EnquireLake Naivasha Sopa is a large, mid-range resort located on the southern shores of Lake Naivasha, the only fresh water lake within Africa's Great Rift Valley, southwestern Kenya. Although the property is perhaps rather dated and impersonal in feel, the property boasts extensive facilities and is set within 150 acres of beautifully manicured grounds which teem with resident wildlife. Herds of giraffe, zebra, and waterbuck roam freely through, while Colobus and Vervet monkeys leap amongst the acacia trees overhead, and at night it’s a delight to witness hippos coming ashore to graze on the expansive lawns.
Spread out extensively through the trees, all of the glass-walled main areas overlook the pretty grounds. A high-ceilinged entrance portico leads past a water feature to the reception area. The light and airy lobby and lounge are split over two levels, and surround a central garden. Chandeliers, leather sofas, and long-chimney fireplaces adorn the central spaces, whilst the wood-panelled bar adds a retro touch. Buffet style meals are served on long tables in the dining room, and there’s a shaded patio for al fresco dining. There are four conference halls, tennis courts, and an enormous pool complete with a children’s zone, snack bar, pizzeria and health spa, and the resort’s private stables are a real draw. Although it must be said that some areas could benefit from a refurb, the facilities are extensive, and the hotel really does offer a great deal to enjoy, particularly bearing in mind the reasonable price tag.
The lodge has twenty one stone cottages laid out in a crescent, with panoramic views of the lodge environs and lake. Each unit contains four very spacious rooms, and though the décor is a little dated, all are clean and comfortable. Every unit houses two ground floor rooms featuring two double beds, a lounge opening out onto the lawns, and an ensuite bathroom with sunken bathtub and shower. There are also two first floor rooms, each with a king-sized bed and private balcony. All rooms come complete with Wi-Fi, TV, tea and coffee station, mini-bar, telephone, and safe. Two rooms have disabled access.
There are a variety of activities available at additional cost, including fishing, horse riding, nature walks and boat safaris, sundowners, and day trips to Lake Nakuru. Although Lake Naivasha and the surrounding area host an abundance of animals and some wonderful birdlife, guests should come prepared for a certain level or urbanisation in the vicinity, which can detract somewhat from the sense of untouched charm.
The resort is very well suited to families. Babysitting, children's meals, and a good range of activities are provided, not to mention of course the lovely pool which is guaranteed to keep younger family members entertained. Six of the twenty-one cottages have inter-connecting rooms on the ground floor, a perfect solution for parents seeking privacy while still enjoying proximity to their children.
Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort will suit couples, groups, or families seeking good-value accommodation with comfortable and spacious rooms, extensive facilities and a good variety of activities.
We had an amazing trip. Everything was well thought out and so much fun. What a great way to truly see the country and learn the culture.
Joseph was the perfect guide. Very kind, professional, knowledgeable and patient. The kids loved Joseph and keep asking when will they meet him again. He found the Big 5 for us which was unforgettable! Please pass along our appreciation to Joseph.
Maji Moto was also another incredible experience. They had great customer service and we loved experiencing their culture.
Sunbird was absolutely beautiful and I wish we had more time there. We loved the view of the lake!
One suggestion to make the trip even better for other guests in the future would be to have a cooler with drinks and snacks in the Jeep at all times because a ton of driving is involved and it would be helpful to have a cold drink and snacks during the long trip.
Thanks again for organizing this experience of a lifetime for us!

We had an amazing time thank you. The itinerary was great as we felt like we saw lots of different things and it kept it interesting for our daughter. She especially loved the gorge at Hells Gate.
Unfortunately the Menengai Crater walk was a bit hard for her although that probably had something to do with how hot it was!
We especially loved the Sunbird Lodge - it is such a beautiful place and all the staff were so incredibly welcoming and friendly.
Our guide, Joseph, was exceptional too and we can’t speak highly enough of him.

The trip was amazing everything was better than we could have imagined.
There was a moment climbing the mount Kenya where my wife accused me of tricking her into doing this (half kidding) as some of the nights got pretty cold, but we were dressed well and the sunrise at the peak was astonishing.
Safari was spectacular, Ben who was our main guide and driver was awesome! We saw everything excepts rhinos which were more of a hope than a reality. We also were able to watch a rock python eat a Thompson gazel live. It was one of the most interesting and unsettling things I have ever seen.
Just overall, so many moments that make you think wow or I can't believe I am here. Thank you for your help in getting everything set up. I don't believe I could have booked the trip without your help and guidance. It was an amazing way to start our marriage and truly the trip of a lifetime!
