Overview

Plains Camp is situated slightly North of Rhino Post Lodge in the Kruger South area of the Kruger National Park. A small, simple camp famous for its walking Rhino safaris, this is a great find for those with a love of the great outdoors.

This camp is a true African retreat; with no electricity, mobile phone coverage or wifi this is a taste of an original African safari where it’s all about the game. The communal areas are cosy and pleasant with a lounge, dining room, large outdoor fireplace and a plunge pool for guests to enjoy. The camp boasts stunning views overlooking the plains and a nearby waterhole frequented by elephants and their young. With the focus of the camp on walking safaris, two expert guides lead twice daily walks on tailored trails giving guests the best chance for fantastic game viewing. Trails that incorporate stays at Rhino Post Lodge are also offered for those that want to include game drives in their trip. In addition, outdoor sleep outs are offered on platforms four metres high and under the stars to experience darkness as well as day time in the bush.

In keeping with the authentic, natural feel of the camp the accommodation is only four luxury en-suite canvas tents. Large and spacious with the African bush at your doorstep this is a real taste of a traditional safari. Each tent is exclusive but the amenities relatively basic; the en-suite has hot running water and 24 hour lighting is available. This may be off putting to some but does truly embrace the natural way to experience safari. A maximum of 8 guests can be housed, keeping the camp private and secluded. There are set arrival days and all activities are done as a group, keeping all the guests together and creating a sense of a small community.

Plains camp is not an accommodation we would advertise as child friendly. There is a policy of no children under 12 and triple rooms are not available. Therefore it would be a costly choice for families and one we would recommend much more highly to adventurous couples.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
