Overview

Five farms were combined to form what is now Mount Camdeboo; a collection of luxurious homesteads in the malaria free Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve, in the heart of Great Karoo. Relatively unknown, Mount Camdeboo has a truly wild feel, with huge open spaces creating some of the best scenery in the area.

By combining different properties the lodge is split into a number of homesteads that are spaced out around the property. Each homestead has its own pool and outdoor area with stunning views across the plains. In house chefs serve dinner every night in an assortment of locations although self-catering is also an option in all the accommodation. Although not ‘Big Five’ territory there is plenty to see in the reserve, with twice daily game drives often sighting cheetahs, rare white rhinos, giraffe and the endangered mountain zebra. Experienced rangers also lead guided bush walks, cheetah tracking and star gazing. Tours to the nearby town of Graaff-Reinet can also be organised.

The accommodation is spread across three restored farmhouses ;Camdeboo Manor, Hillside Manor and Courtyard Manor. Camdeboo Manor is the main accommodation building and houses up to 10 guests and includes a honeymoon/garden suite. A large dining room, outdoor courtyard and swimming pool complete this luxurious homestead. Hillside Manor is a slightly smaller, more modern alternative with only 3 double ensuite bedrooms and situated higher up on the mountain slope. The courtyard Manor is designed to house private party bookings and sleeps 8 guests with a self catering option available. All the rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated and have an authentic safari feel.

Mount Camdeboo is very family friendly. The homestead style of accommodation means children are easily catered for and no minimum age is specified. Lawns and gardens provide lots of outdoor space and children are permitted on safari. A nearby small cat project is also a family highlight.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
