Overview

Phinda Mountain Lodge is one of three ‘&Beyond’ properties located in the Phinda private game reserve, KwaZulu-Natal. With sweeping mountain views, luxurious accommodation and great wildlife the lodge is ideal for adventurous families and couples alike.

As you come to expect with all ‘&Beyond’ properties, Phinda Mountain is stylish and contemporary with spacious guest areas. The main lodge has a large, comfortable viewing deck and glass fronted lounge provide outstanding views of the Ubombo Mountain range and the surrounding bush. A shaded lodge pool and a boma for outdoor dining are also part of the central area creating a relaxed, laid back atmosphere.

A fantastic range of wildlife can be seen on the twice daily game drives with common viewings of cheetahs and the rare black rhino as well as all of the ‘Big Five’. Guide led walking safaris are also offered with the chance to track black rhino on foot. The Phinda Game Reserve covers a range of habitats from mountain forests to coastal dunes and consequently a wide range of ‘Phinda Adventures’ are available including village tours, whale watching and night turtle drives ( all at an additional cost).

The luxurious accommodation is split into 25 suites housing a maximum of 50 guests all set on the mountain side with dramatic views. Each air-conditioned suite has an en-suite bathroom with a private plunge pool, verandah, outdoor showers and private seating area. The rooms are elegantly furnished and spacious with all the expected modern amenities including wifi. Two family suites are also offered, providing interlinked rooms and the option of an extra bed in each room, perfect for younger families.

Children are welcome at Phinda Mountain with the minimum age for game drives only five years old. This is unusually young and encourages families with sensible children (the manager has discretion between 6 and 11 years) to experience a full safari. As offered in all ‘&Beyond’ properties, an interactive Children’s programme for all ages is available in addition to a playroom and childminding facilities. For young families in particular, this is always a reliable child friendly choice and the lower age for game drives at Phinda Mountain allows the whole family to experience the African bush together.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
