EnquireFor those that want to understand South Africa’s bloody history Isandlwana Lodge offers a unique trip. Positioned on the Anglo-Zulu battlefields this is a place rich in culture and history, still a part of local Zulu life.
Isandlwana Lodge is carved into the rock face of Nyoni Rock amidst the beautiful scenery of Kwazulu Natal. It provides a unique insight into local history with tours of famous battlefields and war sites carried out by resident historians, whilst Zulu guides give an authentic understanding of local Zulu village life and culture. An extensive range of activities allows you to explore your own interests; village visits, photographic tours, horse trails and birding experiences are just a handful of the options available at Isandlwana. Highlights of the area are the two hiking trails that combine game watching with places of historical importance; a truly unique view of South Africa.
The Lodge itself includes a library, a swimming pool with unrivalled views, and a relaxing bar area. The accommodation is comprised of the main lodge and a self-catered guesthouse. The main lodge includes 12 modern but simple en-suite bedrooms each with a private balcony overlooking the plains and the historic battlefields. The thatched roof guesthouse can be rented as a three bedroom house or split into two separate residences. This more modest accommodation is ideal for groups, giving privacy from the main lodge and self- catering allowing for more independence. Dining at the main lodge is also an option if reservations are made in advance.
Children aged seven and over are welcome though not specifically catered for as in some other properties. It is worth noting that battlefield tours have a minimum age of 13. However given the wide range of activities available, there is plenty to do as a family.
Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
