EnquireLa Diouna is a rare gem of a villa on the Moroccan Coast that is perfect for families. Situated in a secluded spot in the small town of Oualidia, there are 5 bedrooms, 2 pools, lovely gardens and both sheltered lagoon beaches and wild Atlantic beaches within walking distance.
Situated on a hill near the old kasbah, La Diouana has panoramic ocean views with a total of five bedrooms, three in the main villa and two in a separate cottage and apartment. The villa is a mixture of traditional and contemporary Moroccan design with moucharrabieh woodwork and tadelakt (polished plaster) floors. There is a fully-equipped kitchen, a library with WiFi and a sitting room with wood-burning stove, stereo, LCD screen & DVD. The villa has a patio and roof terrace and is surrounded by a 25,000 sq ft garden of palm trees, pine, mimosa, oleander, bougainvillea and many other shrubs and flowers. The patio leads down to an infinity edge swimming pool and children's pool.
Three hours from Marrakech, the pace at La Diouana is slow and unhurried. By day you can snooze in a hammock or sunbathe by the pool, gazing down at the lagoon far below. At night-time you can luxuriate in a tadlakt bathtub and gaze up at the stars, the only sounds the distant crash of waves and the rustle of wind in the pine trees.
Situated on a small lagoon on the Atlantic Coast, Oualidia is a well-heeled town, slowly growing in popularity for both domestic and international tourists. Whilst most of the Moroccan Atlantic coast is exposed to the elements, the unique tidal lagoon offers calm waters and abundant birdlife: there is a chance of seeing flamingos in the winter months. At one end of the lagoon a 17th century kasbah and a ruined royal summer palace overlook a wide sandy beach. At the other end, a six-mile long tidal estuary curls away into a series of marshes and wetlands, home to egrets, herons, flamingos and oyster-catchers.
Water sports fans will love exploring the lagoon by kayak or boat, whilst for keen surfers, the wild Atlantic Coast offers crashing waves and great surf. Food-wise, the region is particularly well-known for its oyster production. Sea food lovers can also enjoy fresh lobster, crab and red mullet. The beach - a few minutes’ walk from the house - is safe and pleasant for swimming. La Diouna has a boat for lagoon excursions and can arrange fishing trips for sea-bass and sea-bream. Surf lessons, windsurfing, kayak, pedalo and catamaran hire can be arranged locally. There are also two tennis courts in the village with rackets for hire. Keen walkers can follow the coastal path for miles above deserted grottoes and beaches. Oualidia is also famous for its oyster beds. At the Parc aux Huitres 007 you can see the oysters being harvested and sample the produce in the waterside restaurant. On Saturdays a souk is held in Oualidia.
A guardian and maid live nearbye and come in each morning to prepare breakfast. There is a fully equipped kitchen and several small stores in Oualidia if you wish to self-cater. The maid can also prepare meals for you (€12 per adult / €6 per child) in the house or you can eat out in a number of simple local restaurants in Oualidia.
A rental car is not necessary, you can walk into Oualidia and to the beaches from the property and it is easy to organise a local taxi for day trips out. Those with young children or elderly, or those who want to explore more widely might appreciate having a car.
We had a fantastic time. Thank you for all your help, advice and guidance in organising our holiday. As this was not our first booking with Tourdust we were confident that all our transfers would work perfectly and they did - everything ran so smoothly! The riad in Marrakesh was stunning - a truly beautiful oasis of calm in such a busy, bustling city. As you can imagine, we were very grateful for the air conditioning in our room as outside was so hot! I was nervous about walking through the souks at night, but as they were well lit we felt perfectly safe and found our confidence grew in navigating the journey home each time we ventured out. When we arrived at our lodge in the Atlas Mountains we were blown away by the scenery. The views were amazing and the beautiful lodge gardens were the perfect place to sit and relax before taking a dip in the pool. Our day trek was truly amazing - no small thanks to our guide Rashid, who was so helpful and knowledgable. The lunch in the traditional Berber village was delicious and we were were made to feel so welcome. The home owner showed us how to make bread and then cooked it for us in her traditional clay oven. This was a memory we will never forget as we stood surrounded by her chickens and goats watching her use her bare hands to prepare the fire! Our night in the desert was breathtaking. The camel ride at sunset was so incredible and the quad biking the next morning was brilliant fun. I am so glad we added in these extras as they really made the experience! We finally made it to our hotel at the coast, where the surf lessons were a hit and the hotel was a great place to relax and read! Thank you again for all your help. We would definitely recommend Tourdust to all our friends and family. Tanya

We had an amazing time thank you very much! The riads and hotels were outstanding and everything went as clockwork. We had really bad rainfall on the day we transferred to Marrakech but our driver didnt give up and we eventually found a passable road ( which I think was the last possible one to get us there!)
Thank you so much!
