Overview

Canelands Beach Club and Spa is a beach front hotel situated on the Dolphin Coast in Salt Rock just minutes from the shopping centres of Ballito and about an hour from Durban. This area is favoured in the December season by South African visitors from Johannesburg and is a great choice in July/August when this tropical area has temperatures around the 20 degree mark.

Canelands is one of the very few properties in South Africa which is a few metres from the Indian Ocean. Its location on Tiffany beach offers walks on this long stretch of surf beach, a swimming beach a few minutes’ walk away and the protected rock pools on your door step that Salt Rock is renowned for. A long wooden deck runs the length of the property overlooking the 25 metre lap pool and beach, with pool loungers, service beach area, bar, restaurant and sitting areas for soaking up the sun and watching the regular dolphin visitors frolic in the surf. There are only 10 rooms with en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, tea/coffee making facilities, satellite TV, bar fridge and safe.

If you are feeling active there is a good surf school nearby and in season it is possible to organise seafari boat tours out into the bay to see Humpback Whales. Ballito is also a good base for a day tip into Durban where you can head to the world class uShaka Marine World Ocean theme park and explore the bustling Indian Market. The hotel can also organise horse riding, on-site spa treatments, marine trips, canoeing, gym visits and fishing.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
