Overview

The flagship lodge in the 14,000 hectare Thornybush private game reserve, Thornybush Lodge has 18 spacious suites and two family suites. Sleeping a family of 4 (in a double bed and sofa bed), these gorgeous suites have a private balcony over-looking the bush and also a private (unheated) plunge pool for relaxing in-between game drives. The luxurious suites also have outdoor and indoor showers and are air conditioned. Over at the main lodge, there is a larger swimming pool, library and spa.

Meals are served in the large communal area on around the fire in the boma and children's dietary requirements can be catered for. As well as a children's welcome pack, there is also a children's programme with daily activities put on such as nature walks and treasure hunts.

As is the standard, there are twice daily game drives of approximately 3 hours, with a refreshment stop along the way. Game vehicles are open and usually shared with other guests with a ranger and tracker there to spot the wildlife. Thornybush is one of the smaller reserves, but is home to the Big 5, as well as many other interesting game, birdlife and plants.

This is definitely more of an upmarket option, which is reflected in the price. Absolutely ideal for families wanting an exclusive and private space within a game lodge.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
