EnquireThe Madikwe Private Game Reserve is an expansive safari park situated in South Africa’s North West province, bordering Botswana. At around 75,000 hectares in size, it’s among the largest game reserves in the whole country and holds the distinction of being one of the few in the country to be completely free from malaria. Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is one of a dozen lodges scattered throughout this stunning reserve. The lodge is located in the park’s western region on the slopes of Tweedepoort Ridge, from where captivating views of the reserve’s vast plains and diverse wildlife can be enjoyed.
There are eight thatched lodges in total, each of which is designed using earthy tones to create a natural, down-to-earth feel, with stone and wood featuring prominently throughout. Each air-conditioned lodge offers a generous amount of space and has convenient amenities such as tea and coffee making facilities and sliding patio doors that open out onto a private viewing deck. The lodge has been successfully designed to complement and blend in harmoniously with the natural surroundings.
Activities naturally centre on Big 5 safaris - lion, elephant, leopard, Cape buffalo and the black rhinoceros all roam the area. Expert guides will explain all about the reserve and its fascinating biodiversity. Most drives take place in the early morning and late afternoon, when viewing opportunities are at their best, though supervised walking safaris are available as well. While the focus is very much on spotting wildlife, stargazing is also a popular pastime for those staying here. While on site, guests have access to viewing decks on two levels offering commanding views of the area, as well as a swimming pool and a dining area where meals are served. Food is freshly prepared using ingredients that are sourced locally, with dishes featuring regional and national delicacies.
Children are welcome. While there are no particular child-oriented services or facilities, the generous-sized pool with its fabulous views will doubtless keep children entertained. Note that there may be age restrictions on some safari activities, and due to the rural nature of the location, children must remain under adult supervision at all times.
Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
