EnquireBot River is not the kind of place tourists usually stop over at, which is a good thing, as it is a lovely find of a place. These simple farm cottages on the family run Beaumont wine farm in Bot River are a real gem. An opportunity to experience Overberg life on a authentic wine farm.
In a country of big commercial theme-park wineries, Beaumont is a genuine family-run farm and winery situated in the quaint Overberg village of Bot River. Now under a new generation of Beaumont’s, it is producing some of the most sought after wines in the country stocked by both the Wine Society and Berry Bros and Rudd in the UK.
There are two simple, authentic farm cottages on the farm, each boasting open fireplaces in the kitchen and lovely wood-burning stoves in the living room. The styling is simple but tasteful and comfortable. Accommodation is self-catering, but having one of the Cape’s most renowned catering companies on site (zest catering, means that you can arrange to have delicious home-cooked meals delivered to your cottage on request.
Bot River has a real authentic country feel, the old train station is now home to the Shuntin’ Shed pub and restaurant, where meals are enlivened by the occasional goods train hurtling past. The Victorian era Bot River Hotel overlooking the village square is another good watering hole. Both are within easy walking distance of the cottages. The farm itself is an old outpost of the Dutch East India Company, and many of the buildings, cellars and water mill are still in tact.
Days can be spent wine tasting, taking a gentle stroll through the vineyard or trekking up onto the fynbos-rich mountain trails. There is no swimming pool, but a dip in the dam is a great way to cool down on a hot day, failing that, the dam jetty is a cracking spot for a sun-downer. If you fancy a day at the beach, you are only half an hour from the beaches of Hermanus and the whale coast.
This is down-to-earth self catering accommodation, suiting those wanting to scratch beneath the surface of the Overberg region. It would suit wine lovers and walkers alike and is very friendly on the budget. It is not for those looking for hotel-like amenities. There are several large but friendly dogs on site.
For families: Sebastian and Nikki Beaumont live with their own young children on the farm, so there is no stuffy vineyard atmosphere here. This is a fantastic value base for a family, and is one of the few vineyards offering family friendly accommodation with space for the children to run around in. There are two very family friendly restaurants in walking distance. The Whale Coast and Hermanus in particular are woefully short on good family friendly accommodation, making this a brilliant spot from which to explore the region. The larger cottage sleeps 6, larger groups can be accommodated on request.
Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
