Nowhere else in the British Isles quite compares with the Scottish Highlands. The landscape is at its wildest, countless munros beg to be conquered and cosy inns and soul warming distilleries help ease weather bitten travellers. The West Highland Way wends its way through some of the more accessible parts of The Highlands starting on the outskirts of Glasgow and ending in Fort William and lends itself perfectly to a self guided walking holiday. The Highlands meet the West Coast in Argyll and the resulting myriad of sea lochs, inlets and islands are a mecca for paddlers and hikers. The Hebridean Islands benefit from an incredible wealth of birdlife and animals. Golden Eagles, gannets and sea eagles dominate the skies whilst porpoise, minke whales and seals dominate the seas. Beauty and wildlife of this scale don't come without a price and clearly anybody planning a holiday to Scotland will be wary of two things - the rain and the midges. Come prepared though and you'll be ok. Contrary to popular belief, there are prevalent spells of sunshine and if you've got a good raincoat and a decent bottle of deet, you'll nay be bothered by the rain or biting bugs.
