Overview

Selinda Explorers Camp is a high quality tented camp located in northern Botswana in the heart of the vast, open plains of the Selinda Reserve. Accessible via light aircraft, the camp is found on the banks of the Selinda Spillway in prime predator habitat with lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dogs and elephants here in abundance during the dry season.

The main area includes two open-sided tents, one housing a simple dining area and bar, the other a lounge. There is an emphasis on relaxation and privacy, with attentive staff offering highly professional service.

Activities include land and water-based safari. Game drives are offered both day and night but, in contrast to other camps in the area, these are presented as a supplement to other more gentle activities such as guided walks and canoeing (both seasonal), rather than being the main focus. The birdlife is spectacular with plenty of raptors to see, such as hawk and martial eagles.

The accommodation comprises just four ground-level, Meru-style tents which makes for an intimate feel. All tents are custom-designed with spacious, comfortable beds made up as doubles or twins. Each has two rooms and a veranda as well as a private open air ‘bustani bathroom’ with hot water bucket shower and flush toilet. There are fans in the rooms, although it can be chilly at times so do come prepared with warm clothing. Whilst somewhat ‘outdoorsy’ in feel, the camp’s facilities are very good.

Children aged ten years and older are welcomed by Selinda Explorers Camp. Guides offer flexibility and can tailor activities such as fishing or short canoe trips to the needs of families. The camp is really best suited to children aged twelve and over due to the focus on walking safaris which are not suitable for the very young. Note that whilst there is no extreme risk, children must be supervised at all times, since the camp is surrounded by water and animals are free to roam through the camp.

Selinda Explorer’s Camp is a modest but stylish lodge providing unassuming luxury in a stunning waterside location. The focus on walking and canoeing provides a relaxed feel and the heightened sense of tranquility makes for a wonderful stay. This is the perfect choice for travellers with high expectations looking for a restful wilderness experience.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
