EnquireThe Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel is an upmarket yet characterful property set in a 12 acre private woodland reserve in the Peruvian Andes, close to UNESCO World Heritage site Machu Picchu. Located just a few minutes from the bustling backpacker town of Aguas Calientes, this lovely, rustic retreat sits on a tranquil hillside overlooking the Vilcanota River. With 83 chic and spacious guest rooms and suites, a spa, swimming pool, and sauna, all surrounded by beautiful gardens and waterfalls, the hotel is highly comfortable and ideally placed for visits to Machu Picchu.
Guest areas include an outdoor swimming pool, spa, and traditional Andean sauna, plus a bar, gift shop, and small library. With super views of the Vilcanota River and surrounding peaks, the restaurant serves buffet breakfasts, and a la carte lunches and dinners, featuring contemporary, Peruvian-influenced cuisine. Guests can also dine at the more informal Café Inkaterra, a spacious thatched venue with similarly impressive views, open for lunch and dinner. Evening meal reservations are required. Tasting menus and wine tasting sessions are available, subject to arrangement. Wi-Fi is available in guest areas.
Nature walks are on offer around the estate with enthusiastic, informed guides. The area is home to over 200 bird species, including the exotic quetzal, and over 370 species of orchid grow in the region. The reservation also operates a conservation project to protect the endangered Andean Spectacled bear.
The property is close to the railway station, and either a two-hour trek or 30-minute bus ride away from the sprawling and remarkably well-preserved archaeological remains of Machu Picchu. Perched dramatically on a mountainside, 2450m above sea level, this stunning ancient Incan citadel lay undiscovered until 1911, having escaped the attention of the Spanish conquistadores in the 1600s. Opinion remains divided over Machu Picchu’s origins, with experts claiming the immaculately constructed stonework and distinctive terraces functioned as a former religious site, a city and political centre, or a royal retreat.
The accommodation comprises 83 rooms and suites laid out within the attractive grounds. Units vary in size, from superior rooms to expansive suites. All have king or twin beds, an ensuite bathroom, dining area, heating, minibar, and enjoy verdant garden views. Some suites come equipped with separate lounge and dining areas, and open fires, whilst the larger units have private outdoor terraces, some with Jacuzzis and alfresco showers. Most impressive of all is the ‘villa’ which offers extensive living space, a private garden, and a 24-hour butler service.
Children of all ages are welcome. Rooms and suites can accommodate up to three adults or two adults and two children, and one extra bed can be supplied per room, upon request. Guests under 12 years of age stay free of charge when sharing with parents. The hotel operates a Kids Club including child explorer kits especially for little ones, and activities such as treasure hunts in the grounds. A babysitting service can also be arranged. Parents are reminded to ensure that their children remain under adult supervision at all times.
We had an extraordinary time. It was magical and we couldn't hav asked or hoped for more. Thank you both so much for all of your time and assistance.

I would like to say a massive thank you for organising our Vietnam trip. The itinerary and execution were superb, as was the attention to detail. I would also like to thank the agent who was on the end of my whats app chat (I have no idea who they were!) – always available, always quick to respond, and kept me updated regarding times etc. Also, the guides Dan (north) and Tien (mid) were just excellent, and we really enjoyed their company. The lady (whose name I have forgotten) who was our additional guide for the DMZ day was exceedingly good and made that day very special.
