Overview

Mawella Villa is a contemporary and sophisticated luxury boutique hotel in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province. It’s one of many hotels to line the coast, sitting just outside of Tangalle, a popular tourist resort and fishing hub, and combines a colonial-style feel with plenty of modern touches. The service is very friendly and there’s a large pool and direct beach access along with a great deal to explore in the surrounding area.

The accommodation consists of four pristine-clean Double Rooms in the main building, along with two more Double Rooms in the separate Pool House. Each of the rooms can accommodate two adults, with a maximum of just 12 adults staying at the hotel at any one time (though there may be a few children as well). Amenities available in all rooms include air conditioning, complimentary toiletries, overhead fans, a TV with cable channels and a safe; some even have their own private plunge pool. Each room has a luxury four poster bed with high-quality bedding, along with a good amount of private outdoor space where guests can unwind in the fresh air while taking in the views of the scenic surroundings.

Mawella Villa has a distinctly laid-back feel. Not only is there the vast stretch of beach to explore with direct access from the hotel, there’s also the beautifully presented tropical garden to enjoy. On-site facilities include a large 40ft swimming pool and a full-service restaurant that offers three meals a day comprising a selection of popular Sri Lankan dishes, along with some international favourites and plenty of healthy options.

Activities in the area include day excursions to the nearby historic city of Galle, a UNESCO world heritage site, safari expeditions in Yala National Park and whale watching trips.

Children of all ages are welcome and those of three to six years of age can either sleep on an extra bed in the room (availability depends on the room) or they are permitted to share their parents’ bed. While there are no particular designated child facilities at the hotel, there is plenty for all age groups to enjoy in the area, and the beach and swimming pool will doubtless keep youngsters entertained. Parents are reminded to make sure their children are under adult supervision at all times.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever

  • I would like to say a massive thank you for organising our Vietnam trip. The itinerary and execution were superb, as was the attention to detail. I would also like to thank the agent who was on the end of my whats app chat (I have no idea who they were!) – always available, always quick to respond, and kept me updated regarding times etc. Also, the guides Dan (north) and Tien (mid) were just excellent, and we really enjoyed their company. The lady (whose name I have forgotten) who was our additional guide for the DMZ day was exceedingly good and made that day very special.
