Overview

Located in Makalali, west of the Kruger National Park, Garonga is a small camp with an exceptionally high reputation that is thoroughly deserved.

The atmosphere at Garonga is laid back and whilst an authentic safari experience is offered, exploring at your own pace and making time to reflect and relax is very much encouraged. Some truly unique activities are offered as a result; An open air bush bath and sleep out on a beautiful deck, aromatherapy, reflexology and summer picnics. As you would expect, game drives and walks are offered morning and afternoon and there is an abundance of wildlife to be seen. The park is currently home to four of the ‘Big Five’ (only Buffalo is not homed here) and trips are taken in groups of 6. The food at Garonga is exceptional and the in -house wine cellar means a huge variety of wines are also available.

Only 6 luxury tented rooms sleep 12 people making this an exclusive way to experience Makalali. Each room looks down onto a dry riverbed and has a private platform deck and hammock to lay back and take in the natural surroundings. The romantic feel of the camp makes it perfect for a couples retreat and they regularly host weddings and honeymoons. The communal areas include a large thatched main lodge with wooden decks and a pool overlooking often visited waterholes.

Children over 8 are welcome (and if only slightly younger worth asking about) but not specifically catered for.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
