Overview

Nestled in the heart of the Drakensberg Mountains, Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse is in an idyllic location, far away from the stresses of modern life. Set in pretty gardens on the banks of a dam, the Giants Nature Reserve is close by and the awe-inspiring views from the Sani Pass are easily reached in a day trip. This is the perfect base form where to explore the mountains and also reconnect with nature and yourself.

The accommodation comprises eleven individually decorated rooms. Each room has its own theme and colour scheme, taking cues from the surrounding area and the owners' international travel. Each room is en-suite and features TV, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar, heater, fan and warm towel rail and spectacular views. In the communal areas, there is a library, cosy lounge, friendly dining room and an extensive wine cellar.

One of the hotels major selling points is its food. The head chef is also the co-owner of the hotel, Richard Poynton, who has recently been awarded 5 star chef status. His gourmet menu changes everyday and is based on a perfect combination of flavour and texture. His passion for food has developed during his career and he has taken inspiration from his extensive travels. Menus are lovingly prepared with fresh ingredients used from the well-tended gardens at the farm. Breakfast and dinner are both included in a stay at Cleopatra. Breakfasts are 3 courses, whilst dinners are a 7 course affair. All food served is guaranteed to be delicious, exciting and unique.

Away from the restaurant, walking, hiking, cycling, swimming in mountain streams, trout fishing, bird watching, horse riding and excursions to local bushman paintings are just some of the activities enjoyed on the farm and in the area.

Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse only accepts children aged over 12.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
