Overview

Woodbury Lodge is a traditional family run small safari lodge in the Amakhala Reserve. With its pool, spectacular setting and comfortable rooms, it is a good all round option in Amakhala.

Amakhala is a beautifully situated private reserve of around 7500 Ha neighbouring Shamwara East of Addo NP. The reserve was founded in 1999 as a joint conservation venture by local farmers and land owners, many of whose families descend back to the original frontier settlers five generations ago. Amakhala has a refreshingly progressive attitude to conservation and is a strong supporter of the local community. There are 11 small camps and lodges on the reserve in total and a well balanced wildlife population boasting all of the big 5.

Guests are accommodated in six comfortably-appointed stone-and-thatch sleeping lodges, each with air-conditioning and an en-suite bathroom. The secluded lodges are designed with small outdoor verandas each with views over the Reserve.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable and functional in design rather than contemporary and stylish. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, airconditioning and viewing decks. Bathrooms have bath, shower and underfloor heating. The family rooms include a partitioned off room with two single beds for children.

Activities are focussed on morning and afternoon game drives, but as with other camps in Amakhala, there is an optional Cruise down the Sunday River which runs through the property. There is no formal children's program, but Woodbury is without doubt a good family option with its enthusiastic guiding team, family run atmosphere and swimming pool.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
